Ashtanga

The Ashtanga series (8 limbs- Asta means 8) is a system of Raja yoga (complete system or royal system) characterised by having ‘8 limbs’ developed and brought to the west by K. Pattabhi Jois. The immediate and obvious focus is on the physical aspect ‘asana’ featuring intelligent sequencing (called Vinyasa Krama) designed to bring a greater understanding of the body and mind to the practitioner.

Ashtanga Yoga is a highly structured vinyasa-style class. There are five Ashtanga asana series and each student must master every pose of the first series before moving onto the second series.

Practising Ashtanga rejuvenates your body, making it stronger, toned, more flexible, and controlled. The opening series includes lots of contortion poses and many of them require core and arm strength. Your stamina and endurance will gradually improve and you'll have stronger core muscles.

To get full benefits from yoga a regular attendance will promote your understanding of the yoga class and help you to get the most from it. Our yoga teachers offer class passes to ensure you can attend more for less cost to you. Due to Covid-19, you will need to bring your own mat to class. We have socially distanced the studios to allow on 6 students per class (usually 14) and we will be LIVE STREAMING at the same time. So if you are shielding or high risk, you can still join our classes from the safety of your own home.
