Pilates |

Revitalise prides itself on offering small group, progressive
Pilates courses with highly trained teachers who are either
Stott or Body Control trained. We offer over 20 classes
each week, both daytime and evening. We offer a range
of levels, starting at Introductory, then level
1 and level 2. We also have a specific class for pregnant
women.
For those participants who are unable to commit to the
same time each week, you can attend a 1 day Introductory
workshop. Successful completion of this will allow you
to attend a level 1 course as long as they are not fully
booked.
Pilates courses at Revitalise are very popular and we
strongly recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

| WHAT
IS PILATES? |
|
Originally
developed in the 1920s by physical trainer Joseph Pilates,
it is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility
and strength for the whole body, without building bulk.
Pilates focuses on stabilising and strengthening the core
of the body (the lower back and abdomen), and these core
muscle support the body during all exercises. This principle
makes Pilates extremely functional. Pilates is movement
based on quality not quantity.
Breathing, and correct posture and alignment are all important
in Pilates where the focus is on fewer repetitions and
more precise movements using correct control and form.
Pilates is not only an exercise regime, but also a series
of controlled movements engaging both body and mind. Because
your mind is required to engage with your body to perform
the movements correctly, you will experience a new awareness
of muscle function and control. |

In some cases,
it may be preferable to do a series of one on one sessions
before entering group classes. Your teacher can advise
you on this.
In order to gain maximum benefits from Pilates it is best
done, initially at least, as a progressive course. This
enables the student to understand and perform the basic
fundamental principles of Pilates before progressing onto
harder exercises. |
