Frequently
Asked Questions
what do you mean by describing natura products
as natural?
we only use natural renewable raw materials such as
natural oils (avocado, jojoba, macadamia nut oil), plant
extracts (shea butter) and essential oil (lavender,
rosemary).
what do you mean by describing natura products
as organic? all natural oils, plant extracts,
and essential oils are certified organic by nature et
progres, a european-recognised association of farmers
and plant growers - the equivalent to the soil association
in the uk.
what makes natura products different from other
so-called 'natural' skin care and hair care products?
they are made without the use of chemical products,
like mineral oil (paraffin, glycerine,) petrochemical
or chemical-based emulsifier, or preservatives (edta,
peg, all paraben).
are the natura products suitable for vegetarians and
vegans? yes, they are among the most vegan-friendly
products available because they are made without beeswax
or lanolin alcohol.
why do you describe the natura products as ethical?
they meet all four criteria of being ethical
- the social rights of the workers; animal rights (neither
the raw ingredients, nor the finished product, is tested
on animals); they do not harm the environment; and they
are not attached to any political activity.
why do you use a plant-based emulsifier? when
you are mixing together olive oil and water, you need
to add some emulsifiers to make the 'cream'. unlike
most products on the market, we use plant-based emulsifiers
rather than chemical ones because they are not harmful
to the skin.
what is so bad about regular body care products?
it's all about cost. it is10 times less expensive to
produce a conventional body care product than a natural
one. some products are bad for our health (paraben)
others are made using substances that are similar to
those used in warfare gas (sodium laureth sulfate) and
are not environmentally friendly. natura uses natural
alternatives to these chemicals that have been on the
market for years. the result is the same, if not better.
where are the products made? the products
are made in provence, in the south of france, near avignon,
by a family-run business that has been producing organic
cosmetics for the last 30 years. the products are based
on our own formulations, using the best raw materials
and essential oils.
what is your association with the ethical consumer organisation?
the eco approached us after having done exhaustive research
to find suitable ethical companies that met their stringent
criteria. they found that we (and our manufacturers)
worked according to good environmental standards, excellent
work place conditions and zero testing on animals.
which market sector are the products targeting?
of course the niche, natural market, but also
the mass market through major department stores, chains,
multiples, etc
how old is natura and where is the company based?
natura is a new company, formed earlier this year. however,
it is the result of more than 10 years of work in the
organic industry - hence the revolutionary raw material
used in the cream and mask. the company is based in
brighton and is a collective of like-minded individuals,
each bringing specific skills to the company (pr, marketing,
product development, packaging, design etc.)
will you be launching other products in the future?
yes, we are launching facial care products within the
next six weeks. longer term we plan to launch other
ranges, including a baby and men's range. for further
