Laser Hair Removal FAQ’s
How does a laser remove unwanted hair?
A laser focuses light energy at a specific wavelength into a narrow beam just a few millimetres in diameter. The selection of wavelength for laser hair removal is important for achieving optimal results and avoiding skin damage. At the proper wavelength and energy, the laser light penetrates the skin attacking the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. Hair that is in an active growth phase will be destroyed by the energy absorbed from the laser light.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The lasers used at Revitalise have been approved for permanent hair reduction. You will notice a significant reduction in hair growth following each laser treatment. After a sufficient number of treatments, you will likely see little or no hair growth. However, no hair removal procedure can claim to permanently remove hair. Hormonal changes brought on by such events as pregnancy or menopause can produce new hair growth. Also, certain medications can cause new growth, but apart from these hormonal or medical changes, current hair growth will dramatically decrease where you will see little or no hair growth.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser hair removal is much gentler than electrolysis, waxing or shaving. Phaser-EPL is the result of more than 20 years experience in the medical laser industry and a fresh innovation from Chromogenex Technologies Ltd. Phaser-EPL is an Intense Pulsed Light System utilising its own advanced “smartlite” TM Dual Phase technology. Most clients report slight or no discomfort, although we would not expect any pain with hair removal.
How many treatments will I need?
Generally six to eight treatments will be required. Your skin colour, hair colour and texture, and body area are among the many factors that determine how readily your hair will be removed. Dark hair is easier to remove than blonde hair. Gray hair without pigment at the follicle cannot be removed. This will be discussed when you come in for your free consultation and patch test.
Are there any side effects or risks?
The most common side effect of laser hair removal is the temporary darkening (hyper-pigmentation) or lightening (hypo-pigmentation) of skin colour. These risks can be greatly minimized by avoiding direct sun exposure on your treatment area for six weeks before & after treatment, avoiding the tanning booth & sunbeds for two weeks prior and one week following your laser procedure and avoiding fake tan application ten days prior to treatment. Possible risks and side effects will be discussed when you come in for your free consultation and patch test.
Can anybody have hair removed by a laser?
Laser hair removal cannot be administered if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or currently taking certain medications. Certain medical conditions will require the prior approval of your doctor prior to your FREE consultation at Revitalise
