About
the Body Stress Release technique
BSR is a new complementary technique pioneered in South
Africa by Ewald and Gail Meggersee. This gentle technique
assists the body in its own healing process and brings
effective relief against all forms of tension, pain and
discomfort caused by the build up of stress in the body.
Body Stress Release offers a safe, gentle yet effective
way to help the body release muscle tensions. These tensions
become locked into the body as a result of stress overload.
With the person fully clothed and lying down, the practitioner
carries out a series of tests to locate the exact sites
of body stress. The practitioner can then determine the
precise direction in which the lines of tension exist,
using the body as a biofeedback mechanism.
A gentle stimulus is then applied to encourage the body
to release the stored tension, thus assisting the body
in its inbuilt ability to heal and maintain itself.
With Body Stress Release, muscles are stimulated in a
way that takes the pressure off the nerves and life comes
back into the muscles. This is why after a first release
the client may experience some pain and discomfort. With
the release of tension, feeling starts to return to the
muscle as it adapts to a new state of suppleness and sensitivity.
At a second release clients frequently report a dramatically
heightened sensitivity to pressure in the muscles. This
is a good indicator to the practitioner that healing is
taking place.
The applied pressure works on nerve impulses in the muscles.
It is this activation of the nerves, which releases the
compression in the muscles and explains the body's rapid
response. Thus a more efficiently functioning nervous
system assists the body in maximising its self-healing
capacity.
If the body stress has occurred recently, the process
of releasing it is usually very rapid. However, if the
stress has been stored for a long time, the stress releases
may have to be carried out over a period of time. This
is because the tight, protective layers of the muscles
tend to relax by degrees back to their normal tone.
Body Stress Release is for everyone from infants to the
elderly, whether sick or healthy.
As we are all subject to the stresses of life, we all
tend to accumulate stored tension, with the resultant
decline in the body’s efficiency.
Therefore, everyone’s quality of life may be enhanced
by being assessed for body stress and having it released
from time to time.
You should NOTE: Body Stress Release is not a diagnosis
or treatment of any condition or disease.
It is concerned only with locating and releasing stored
tension, so that the body is assisted in its in-built
ability to maintain and heal itself.
