The Brighton and Hove Astrology Circle

Founding Member: Phoebe Wyss

Aim: To promote astrology as a tool for self-development and spiritual growth

  • Astrology classes for beginners and advanced
  • Astrology inspired events, games and meditations

Time and Place: Thursdays 8.00 -9.30pm at Revitalise 86, Church Road, Hove (opposite Hove town hall). All are welcome on a drop in basis. Cost £5 (£4 members)

Programme: Fortnightly talks on different aspects of astrology, interspersed with class evenings. Talks are suitable for beginners and advanced, but a knowledge of basic astrology is needed for the class evenings (A new beginner’s class will start separately in January. Contact Phoebe for details) Bring your birth-chart to the meetings, if you have one, or give Phoebe your data and she will print one out for you free.

Membership yearly membership fee £12 (January to December 2009).

‘‘Moon Pluto: A Soul Journey’ class with Pam. The Moon represents our feelings, our home and our mother. When it is aspected by Pluto our lives will be a deep journey of our soul. Pam will use charts to illustrate those who have survived and are stronger, and suggest some healing tools.

‘‘The Astrology of 2012’, talk by Helen Sewell. The solstice of 21st December 2012 is believed by several global cultures, through various ancient prophecies and calendrical systems, to signify a major era of change and upheaval for the world. What will its effects be psychologically and socially for this country?

‘Astrodrama’, class with Phoebe. The planets, your subpersonalities, all have different voices. We will experience how they speak to each other in your chart.

‘‘Love is a Careless Child – The Enigma of Mary Shelley’, talk Greg Szanto. Who was the person who created Frankenstein’s monster? The birth chart of Mary is not only that of the creator, but also paradoxically that of the famous creature.

‘‘Guess the Mystery Person’, class with Phoebe. In small groups you will be provided with a birth chart and enough biographical details to guess its owner. The winners get a prize!

‘Astrology and the ancient Art of Geomancy’ talk by Chris Mitchell. Geomancy or "fortune telling from the earth" - has been practiced across the world for millennia. Chris will be looking at how you can use this ancient system for simple fortune telling, and demonstrating its use in astrology.

‘ ‘Electric Overload: The Aquarian Surge’, class with Pam. This month’s stellium of planets in Aquarius represents a surge of electrifying energy. Where will it take place in your chart? Will you be overloaded or grasp this massive opportunity of creativity? The answer lies in balance with the Leo polarity.

‘Reconnecting with the Night Sky’ talk by Phoebe Wyss. Bernadette Brady’s work on visual astrology is inspiring many desktop astrologers to become stargazers again. In this talk Phoebe will explain how to find your heliacal rising and setting stars, and work with star-planet combinations.

‘The traditional and the archetypal approaches to interpreting charts compared. Trav and Phoebe will demonstate the two different methods using Madonna’s chart.

‘‘An Introduction to Medical Astrology’, talk by Phoebe Wyss. Astrology has been used over the centuries by medical practitioners as an aid for diagnosis and treatment. The human body mirrors the heavens, and each planet relates traditionally to a certain organ.

BIOGRAPHIES

Phoebe Wyss has worked as a professional astrologer for 30 years. She also has qualifications in counselling and past-life regression. She pioneered the experiential approach to astrology in Germany, where she published her astrology board game, Lebensrad, She is author of two books Hercules’ Labours: the Evolutionary Path round the Horoscope and Virtual Lives: the Animated Zodiac .

Greg Szanto is author of The Marriage of Heaven and Earth: The Philosophy of Astrology; Astrotherapy: Astrology and the Realization of the Self; and Perfect Timing: The Art of Electional Astrology. He obtained the gold medal from the Faculty of Astrological Studies, and has been their director of summer schools. He is a practising psychotherapist and presently Mayor of Eastbourne.

Pam Carruthers is a professional certified Western and Vedic astrologer. (Faculty of Astrological Studies and ACVA). She works as a counselling astrologer, and facilitates workshops as a Psychology of Vision trainer, and also offers life coaching

Trav’s interest in astrology started in childhood. He studied with the Faculty, and was later tutored by Olivia Barclay and John Frawley in horary and traditional methods where his real interest lies. A member of the 'Stargroup' of the University of Chichester, Trav runs his own traditional group, 'The Astrological Explorers', as well as his horary practice.

Helen Sewell, Dip.Psych.Astrol, is a professional astrologer who trained at Liz Greene’s Centre for Psychological Astrology She has tutored for the CPA and also gives private consultations to a wide variety of astrological clients. She is also a trained couples counsellor and works with the national organisation 'Relate'.

Chris Mitchell has had a life-long interest in astrology, and is active in promoting astrology at all levels. Chris is on the Council of the Astrological Association, helps organise the local astrology group in Bristol, runs an astrological events teaches at the Bristol School of Astrology and is a regular on local radio and in the local press.
